The MSR-2 is a small mmWave presence sensor that arrives with ESPHome already flashed. Power it, give it your Wi-Fi details, and Home Assistant discovers it through the ESPHome integration. This is the Base variant, built around the HLK-LD2410B radar.
Next to the radar sit an LTR-390UV sensor for ambient light and UV, an RGB LED and a piezo buzzer, all of which you can use in automations. The sensor talks to Home Assistant over your own network. There is no cloud account and no subscription.
Still Detection, One Target
The LD2410B suits the job of holding presence on someone who is barely moving, such as a person reading on the sofa or working at a desk. Apollo describes its still detection as very good. The radar reaches about 6 metres, with a 120 degree horizontal and 70 degree vertical field of view.
It tracks a single target. It reports that a space is occupied, and it cannot count people or locate them. For the positions of several people, see the MTR-1.
Tuning
The radar module divides its range into fixed gates of 0.75 metres, and you set three distance zones of your own in centimetres. Sensitivity is adjustable from the Home Assistant device page, which is how you tune out a false positive from a fan or a curtain. Apollo recommends mounting the sensor 1.5 to 2 metres off the ground.
What Is In the Box, and What Is Not
The box holds the assembled MSR-2 in its case. Nothing else is supplied:
- No USB-C cable.
- No power supply.
- No mount and no stand.
You need your own 5 V USB-C power supply and cable. Apollo says the sensor takes under 1 A, so most phone chargers are suitable, and it warns that very cheap chargers have caused problems.
This is the Base variant. It has no CO2 sensor and no humidity sensor. The MSR-2 is for indoor use.

Home Assistant and ESPHome Set-up
Power the sensor and it opens its own Wi-Fi hotspot. Join the hotspot and enter your Wi-Fi details, or use Improv over Bluetooth from Home Assistant. Home Assistant then finds the sensor through the ESPHome integration, and you add it and assign an area.
Apollo publishes the firmware configuration on GitHub, so you can take the device into your own ESPHome set-up and change it. Updates install over the air from a Firmware Update entity in Home Assistant. The sensor can also work as a Bluetooth proxy if you enable that yourself through ESPHome.
Singapore Compliance
The MSR-2 is IMDA-registered equipment, Equipment Registration ESER/26/6080, legally imported into Singapore by 2MAG PTE. LTD. under IMDA Telecommunication Dealer's (Class) Licence DA/26/0184.

FAQ
Does the MSR-2 track more than one person?
No. The LD2410B tracks a single target. You can split its range into three distance zones, but it reports one target. The MTR-1 is the sensor for several people with positions.
What do I need to power it?
A 5 V USB-C power supply and a USB-C cable. Neither is in the box.
Does it need a cloud account?
No. It connects to Home Assistant over your local network through ESPHome. Apollo states that no data is sent to external servers.
Can I use it outdoors?
No. Apollo designed the MSR-2 for indoor use.
